PWA not functioning

I have some users who are project owners.
When they try to accept updates in PWA, MS Project loads up and produces the
error

Microsoft SQL Server Login

SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [DBNETLIB] Connection Open (Connect()).
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [DBNETLIB] SQL Server does not exist or
access denied


My questions is why is MS Project loading up - shouldn't the updates run
through the web gui?

All help is welcome

In PS 2003 it's normal for the project to open in MS Project when accepting
updates. If they're getting the updates to accept, the project owners must
have been able to open/save/publish the project in the past, but it still
looks like a permissions issue. Check their groups/categories to make sure
something didn't drop/get denied.
