PWA Popup - No periods have been defined after thecurrent period.

A resource wants to enter non-productive time in PWA for the period which is
2 months from current period. But he gets popup message:

"No periods have been defined after thecurrent period. Contact your server
administrator for more information."

How can we define periods?

What is the resolution of this problem?

Thanks

Hi FMCyb,

Your Project Server is set up with "Managed Periods". This means that you
can only enter time within the timefram set to Open. You can find this
functionality under Admin > Customise Project Web Access > Managed Period.

I hope this helps

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I've one more question on this topic.

How many periods should we keep open in MS Projects keeping in mind:

a. The absence of future periods prevents a resource from making changing in
tasks that are in the future.
b. Keeping a lot of future periods open allows resources to enter their
vacations in non-productive plans well before time.

So how many periods shoudl we keep open. A user asked to keep years of
periods. Are there any implications of opening too many periods?

Thanks

Hi FMCyb,

Well this question can only be answered by your business. How much time do
you want your staff to change their time?
You should probably bare in mind that, if you dont closed historical
periods, team members can go "back in time" and amend time entered
previously. ( this of course would still need to be approved by the PM).

The same with the future, why do you want staff members to enter actual time
in the future? Staff members should only update time that just appeared.

Not sure if this helps, but in a nutshell, your business will need to
desight how many periods it wants to keep open. The open period has only one
purpose, this is to give team members the ability to enter actial time in the
open time periods
