PWA ports issue

Dominic Moss

I have been working with a company where Project Server 2003 has been
installed and configured with the SQL Database on a separate server.

The instance of Project Server & SharePoint was working fine until we went
to build the OLAP Cube and create Portfolio Analysis views. We got the
message about DSO being required on the Server where Project Server is
installed. In installing DSO on the Project Server box the administrator
also made some undocumented changes with the port settings on the Project
Server box. As a result the URL with the server name
http://servername/projectserver is inaccessible whereas when the the URL
with the IP address http://nn.n.n.nnn/projectserver is used Project Web
Access is accessible.

Has anyone else experienced such a problem and if so how can it be fixed?

Hi Dominic,

We had all sorts of issues with DNS & Project Server, more in the
publishing side of things though i.e. with a full domain name in
place, projects wouldn't publish properly and/or publish but not
create a subweb. They would if you removed the domain part of the url.
Go figure!

If you are within the 'n.n.nnn' domain then you shouldn't have issues.
Otherwise a quick workaround is to edit your hosts file and put the IP
address in for 'servername'.

Hope this helps.

Dom,
Try entering a host header for the site such as project.domainname.com, add
a host record in DNS for the computer's ip "project" see if that helps.
