PWA: VBScript error message when exporting the glid to excel

Sara

Hi

Could you please help me with the above issue?
We use MSP2003 and our excel version has been all confirmed with 2003.
Project Server address has been added to the trusted sites in Internet
Options, and Active X control has been installed as well. Only one member is
having this issue. What would be the possibility to cause this issue? The
error is below.

If I remember rightly it is a permission issue in IE with regard to the
ActiveX. Check that you are allowing unsigned ActiveX controls...

I checked the Active X Control setting fron Internet Option; however,

Hi Sara,

As Ben mentioned to you, it sounds like settings on IE causing the
issue.

Please do the following steps:

1) Open IE browser

2) On Tools menu -> Internet options -> click on Security tab ->
select Trusted Site under security zone box

3) Click on "Custom Level" under security level for this zone

4) Look for ActiveX controls and plug-ins ; under this option look for
"Initialize and Script ActiveX contrls and marked as safe for
scription"

5) Choos the option "Enable"

6) Click OK to close the IE settings window

7) Click OK to close the IE options window

I hope the above settings will help in resolve the issue.

Please let me know, if you have any further issues.

Thanks
Chak

Hi Sara,

It seems to be some other options may be disables. Please do the
following:

Launch IE browser

On Tools menu -> Internet options -> click on Security tab -> select
Trusted Site under security zone box

Click on "Custom Level" under security level for this zone

Look for ActiveX controls and plug-ins; under this option please set
the following settings:

Download signed ActiveX controls -> Prompt

Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe ->
Enable

Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins -> Enable

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting -> Enable

Thanks

Hi Chak

I did your steps below but we still get a pop-up such as "XML data has been
copied in clip board......" Yes, the URL has been alread added to Trusted
site, as well.
Do you think reinstalling Active X control will resolve this issue?

Thank you for your support.

Sara:

Is this particular user trying to load more data than other users? I believe
that there's a data limit to the export function. Can this user perform the
same task when logged on to a different machine? If so, you should look for
browser add-ins that the user might have installed that might interfere with
the data transfer or spawning the ActiveX instance. Another thing you might
try is to recreate the user profile on the workstation.

Hi Sara,

You can also consider Gary's suggestions.

Meanwhile, you can try the following alternative solution.

Read the VB Script message carefully. It saying "XML data in this glid
has been copied in clipboard"

It means already copied to clipboard and avialable for paste
operation. Now, please do the following steps:

1) Click on "Export Grid to Excel" link on PWA

2) You will see the VB Script message "XML data in this glid has been
copied in clipboard"

3) Open notepad

4) Paste th contents (Edit menu > Paste)

5) Save file with xml extension (example: PWA.xml; please make sure
the file name should not have any .txt extension)

6) Open Excel application and open PWA.xml

OR

Rename PWA.xml as PWA.xls; Open the file with MS Excel

Stpe 6 withh display the PWA grid in Excel application with complete
formatting. It's same look as you will get from Export Link. It's
involved some manual process, but meanwhile you user can able to view
the grid contents in excel.

Once you do this above steps, try again by clicking "Export Grid to
Excel" link, I hope it will not prompt the
VB Script message. Sometimes, it will activate by clearing the
clipboard.

Good luck.

Hi

As Chak's suggestion, I had her clear the clipboard and in that way she was
able to get what she was supposed to; however, she was still not able to
export the grid directly to excel.

So she had Active X Control reinstalled, and now she has no problems
exporting the grid to excel. Thank you very much for your assitance. She is
so happy now.
