Q:Shape Numbering Outside Shape

I am running Visio 2002. Is there a way to number a flowchart putting
the number on the outside of the shape? Ideally I would want to put
them in the upper left corner of the shape just outside the shape
line.

Hi,
You can move the text block of the shape outside the shape itself using the
Text Block tool. It will remain associated with the shape. If you want to
number the flow step using Custom Properties, you can Insert > Field > Custom
Properties and then choose the filed you want. It will then appear in the
text.
