qualifying product

F

FionaBlue

I am reinstalling Office XP Professional, and the message I get is
“Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine. Please
select the drive where the qualifying product can be found.â€

Under this message is a window showing the drives as A:\ or C:\ or D:\ and
it appears to be wanting a path for the product validation point.

The computer I have came with Office XP Home editions so this is an upgrade
but I have used the same disc for 2 years now with no problem.
Please help! I can't do my work at home without the office tools.
Thanks!
Fiona

At this point, in the message window showing the drives, select the
drive that the Office CD is in, and browse to the folder 'Office' click
OK and go from there, should install as normal from there.

1) There is no such product as "Office XP Home Edition" - you have
Windows XP Home and the vendor chose to include Office XP Small Business
Edition (I assume - unless you're assuming you can use *WINDOWS* as a valid
QP for *OFFICE*)

2) You don't /have/ a qualifying product. If, indeed, you do have the
SBE, it's not a QP - products of the same family line cannot be used to
qualify as it's considered a cross-grade, *not* an upgrade. The only
qualifying products for /any/ version of Office XP are Office 97 and Office
2000 - there are no others.

So, unless you have a version of either of the aforementioned suites, you do
not have a qualifying product, ergo your Office XP Pro upgrade licence is
void.
