queries dont retain print setup

Is there a way to make queries retain printing characteristics? For ex, if I
set it to print landscape, the next time I open it it is back to portrait.

No, queries don't have saved print properties. The only way to really do
this is to create a form that is shown in table view which uses a record
source of the underlying query that you want to format consistently.
