Query appointments based on category contains

I have several appointments all categorized with category names such as
INS-Subject 1
INS-Subject 2
INS-Subject 3
ABC-Subject 4
ABC-Subject 5
XYZ-Another Subject
XYZ-And Another
I want to use instant search to display just the appointments with
categories that contain INS. Is there a way to query based on category with
instant search using the CONTAINS criterion or can you only query the
categories field using EQUALS?

You can use the advanced tab on the advanced search for that.
