Hi all,
[SUMMARY]
Query is regarding 'update project' option of MS Project wherein it
calculates the expected % completion for project [or set of tasks]
based on start-end dates and given date on which expectation is
calculated.
[IN DETAIL]
What I have observed is that when you tell MS Project to update project
to calculate expected %, and give specific date, it adds into its
'projected or calculated consideration' all those %s which you have
already updated in % completion columns for tasks that are yet to begin
on timeline [w.r.to give date to udpate project].
For example, if you have two sequencial tasks in MPP, say first is from
1 Jan to 31 Jan and second task of 1 Feb to 28 Feb, and then if you
already have tracked MPP to around say 75% completion in % completion
columns, at the date of or before 31 Jan, and then if you say given 31
Jan as date to calculate expected completion, through Update Project
option, it shall not only project 100% for first task, but would also
pick that 75% for second Feb task into its consideration, as you have
already updated MPP for that much progress, ahead of that second task's
start date. It really does not consider 0% expectation for that second
task, in spite of consideration date is 31 Jan.
Can you please guide me if there is any option to override this
behaviour? Only way I see is to use the blank non-tracked MPP for
udpate project.
Thanks for your time.
