Query won't open for editing in 2007 design view

I have a query I can't open in Design view to edit it. It's a very basic
update query. The error message it comes up with is: " is not a valid name.
Make sure it does not include invalid characters or punctuation or that it is
not too long.

The query is in a database that was converted from 2003 where the query
could be viewed fine. If I open the unconverted database in 2007 I have the
same problem. There seems to be no way to open the query for editing.

It should be noted that when the query is run it functions properly in the
converted database. It's just I can't edit it.
