question about imap accounts...

After I set up an imap account how to I set it and all it's subfolders to
download all messages and atttachments tobe available offline on the local
computer? I went to send/recieve settings and set it to download complete
items including attachments for subscribed folders but that didn't seem to
do the trick. I'm looking to back up quite a few emails to a local machine
but I'm just not having any luck. I'm in Outlook 2007.

Did you subscribe to the folders? RIght-click the IMAP folder set root and
choose "IMAP Folders". Select them all and click Subscribe. Perform a
send/receive. Now go offline. Do you see the messages now?

I've tried that too.. I think now that the problem lies with my host's imap
server... I don't think it's finishing the send/recieve.... so other than
subscribing to the folders and setting the send/recieve profile to download
complete items there's nothing else I need to do?

Not than I'm aware. Truth be told, Outlook has never been all that great at
IMAP. I thnk Outlook 2010's IMAP handling is much nicer, but I haven't
specifically tried offline data access. I'll have to do that when I get home.

I subscribed to my IMAP folders, performed a send/receive, set Outlook
offline, then stopped and restarted Outlook. I could still see the IMAP
contents.

It was definitely a problem with my host's IMAP servers. They finally
admitted to it after several days of pestering on my end. It still takes an
extremely long time to sync the folders but at least they got it working
again.
