question about panes

If I divide my worksheet up into 2 panes, how do I perform "unsynchronized
schrolling"

You don't - use Window / New Window, then tile/arrange them. This will create a 2nd view of your
workbook entitled workbook:2. Edit Workbook:1, and when done, close Workbook:2 using the X for
that window. If you save with two windows open, it will open with two windows open.
