Question about 'Purging' in IMAP

My understanding so far is: on deleting an item it first strikes it off in
the view, and only on purging (edit menu) the item actually gets deleted. Is
this entirely correct?

Also, is the functionality the same in case of moving mails between internal
folders? (Purging deletes it from Old folder)?

thanks..

An item deleted locally in your e-mail client is only *marked* for
deletion. Not until the e-mail client connects to and synchronizes with
your mailbox up on the server does the item actually get deleted up on
the server (after which the item will also get deleted in the local
e-mail client). The strikethrough denotes an item is eligible for
deletion. That doesn't happen until your client syncs with the server.
That's what Purge does.

Thanks Vanguard, the first part is clear. About the second part, my question
was, does the same purging logic apply to moving mails between one IMAP
folder to another IMAP folder (e.g. from Inbox to Junk), like I have to click
Purge to delete the mails from the Old folder?
That kb URL is about something else I think

The "move" in IMAP is to copy and delete. That means the original item
is marked with Deleted status, so it's behavior is the same as when you
delete an item regarding the need to synchronize with the server.

I don't personally use IMAP. So if you want a reply by an MVP, see:
