Question of MS Windows and MS Office License Key

I have 2 questions here, wondering if anyone can help. I am doing an IT
audit for 1 of my company's customers. There are about 12 PC, mix of
Dell and HP, using MS WinXP SP2, MS Office 2K, and MS Office 2003 just
for Outlook. My initial audit tool is Belarc Advisor.

1. Anyway that I can retrieve MS Office 2K license key? I have all the
licenses but I need to know which copy went to which PC...
I dun seem manage to find anyway that can do this. I use keyfinder,
cd-keyreader, both not able to retrieve 2K key, but 2003 no problem.

2. The Win XP license key that I retrieve using Belarc, seems like just
a generic key, which is different from the actual key that was printed
on the sticker. Funny thing is, when I use keyfinder or cd-keyreader to
retrieve again, I am able to get the correct key, same as the one on
sticker, but only for Dell PCs. HP PC still remain the same. Anyone
knows why?

Thanks

You have the tool you need for both 1 & 2.

1. Belarc Advisor will show the key for all office products
installed on the computer. It is listed under software
licenses.

2. This is normal for factory installations of XP or 2000
on Dell and HP machines. They clone the hard drives at the
factory and the key is normally the same for many runs of
their machines with the same type of OS. The license key on
the back or bottom of the CPU is the key needed when
reinstalling their provided OS.

For my case, Belarc doesn't show the license key for Office 2K
installed, however, it does show the key for Office 2003.

Not just for your case... the product key for Office 2000 is not
stored in the Windows registry, so keyfinder utilities such as
Belarc and Magical Jellybean cannot find it. Product keys for
earlier and later versions of Office are stored in the Windows
registry and can be reported by these keyfinder utilities.

G-n-O, Good pickup, forgot that since the computer I checked
didn't have 2000 installed on it, just all other versions of
Office - 97 - 2003. Got to get 2000 installed also so I can
check this type of thing before I open my big fat mouth.

Sorry to chengsun for the bad info on Office 2000. The
other information about the Win XP key does hold true
however.
