Question on using EditSite to create a new web site

R

Ray

For a special project we need to use Managed Time Periods. Our Project
Server 2003 system does not use them and we can't mess with it.. It looks
like I can use EditSite to create a new Project web site with a new Project
SQL database (ProjectServerMTP). Is that correct?

Would the URL's look something like this:

Existing site: http://project.ourcompany.com/ProjectServer

New site: http://project.ourcompany.com/ProjectServerMTP

Are there any "gotchas" with doing something like this?

Is it effectively a completely new instance where I have to set everything
up again, inclding the Enterprise Global and resources?

If so, can I take my existing Enterprise Global and Enterprise Resource
backups and "restore" them to the new site?

Thanks for any help you can lend,

Ray

Ray,

There is no issues with using edit site. What you can do is copy the current
project server database and restore with name as projectservermtp and then
use the connection and apply managed time periods. No issues with that. But
do want to warn you going to time periods when resources have already started
to report time in PWA. My company had lot of issues doing that and we decided
to go back to non-managed time period. Let me know if have any other questions

?

.

Hi Gaurav,

Thanks. That's why I want two instances: One with projects needing managed
time periods and one without.

Wouldn't that mean a specific resource could log on to
http://project.ourcompany.com/ProjectServer and not have managed time
periods and then they could log onto
http://project.ourcompany.com/ProjectServerMTP and have managed time periods
for the projects in that database?

Or am I completely misunderstanding the purpose and operation of separate
instances of Project Server?

Thanks,

Ray

You need to have two seperate databases for what you want to do. All the
settings are in database.

So you do need to have two databases
