Question on WSS Issues used with MS Project Server

L

Lisa Rosa

We are using WSS with Microsoft Project Server 2003. The
way we set this up is anytime a project is published to
the Project Server, a WSS site is automatically created.
We are using WSS for all project collaboration. We have
come across a challenge. On the Issues and Risks section
of WSS, we would like to be able to assign these to anyone
including people who are not in the Enterprise Resource
Pool for Project Server. But the Assign To list only
pulls from the Enterprise Resource Pool. We would like to
be able to add other users to this list in WSS but not
have to worry about Project Server CALs because they will
not be using Project Server, just accessing WSS (i.e.
Customers).

Any ideas or options? I also posted this on the WSS
Newsgroup and they recommended I post it here.
Thank you,
Lisa Rosa,

Lisa:

Interestingly enough, the issues and risks section of the WSS Project
Workspace are specific and custom to Project Web Access. I think Microsoft
would consider using these as the same thing as using PWA whether you access
them directly through the workspace or through PWA. IMO, for managing access
for customers, you're well advised to provide the access through PWA to help
manage security.

Gary,

Thanks for the reply. What I think you are saying is we
should go ahead and purchase the PWA CAL for our customers
and add them to the Enterprise Resource Pool even though
this need may be short lived (the life of the project). I
was hoping there was another solution. I didn't want to
incur that extra cost and administration for activating
and then inactivating the resources when the project ended.

Thank you,
Lisa

As information, we were doing additional testing and it
appears that the drop down list for WSS Issues/Risks is
driven from the resource that have access to the site, not
the Enterprise Resource Pool as it appeared. If someone
is invited to the site, they are available in the drop
down list for Issues/Risks.

Lisa,

have you given any non-domain users access to WSS? If so, how did you
accomplish this task?

Grant,

We have only added resources that existed in our
domain(s), we have not added anyone outside.

Sorry,
Lisa
