a friend in need

i just raised a question about setting footnote in more than two columns in a
single page; however, the solution suggested were all effective if there are
two or more columns text bodies. But in my case, there is only one text body.
i'd like to know how this problem can be solved. i will really appreciate if
some help me!

thanks go to those who spend time to read and answer this SOS!

You want a multi-column footnote under a single body text column?

I am not sure that a "footnote" is what you actually want here. Please tell
me why you need the multiple columns? This is very bad page design if it's
really a footnote: if *I* were your editor, I would immediately run a blue
pencil through it :)

To do this, you would need to insert a continuous section break at the
bottom of the page and set the text following it to be multi-column. You
would then need another section break at the top of the next page to go back
to single-column.

Doing this would result in a highly unstable document structure that would
be more trouble than it was worth to maintain.

The other way to achieve the same visual appearance would be to use a
floating table set to float on the bottom margin. That would be more stable
and easier to maintain.

But please tell me why you need this: I may have the wrong idea of what you
are trying to do...

Cheers

you know, i am tying in two different langauges.
in one it is strogly recommended to have multiple footnotes in order to save
the pace. therefore nearly all editors ask typist to design the appearance
that way. of course i am not a typist but an interprator. currently i am
translating a book. i was asked to finad a solution for this so that the
typist can type my traslation accodring to the editorial role here.
unfortunately no one knows it here. that is why i raised such a question.
i will thank you if you help me find the solution.

OK, now I understand. You want a "Translation Table": two columns, English
footnote in one, another language footnote in the other.

I am sorry, you cannot do this in footnotes. A footnote can "contain" a
table, but it cannot "be" a table.

So: You can have one footnote, containing a table that has the French text
in one half and the English text in the other. But it's a single footnote.

You cannot have two footnotes, one English and the other the French version
appearing side-by-side in the footer.
