Question with Loading data into MS Project 2003 from an Excel file

Nick

Hello,

I have an excel file and I am loading the data into MS Project. In the excel
file I have Resource information, Start and End dates and number of hrs
required for each task. Everytime I do the import MS Project changes either
the duration(Start and End Dates) or then number of hrs required based on the
"Schedule" settings under Task -->Options.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Thank you in advance for your time,

Nick

Nick:

Microsoft Project is a "scheduling engine" at its core. If you give it data,
it does its job. The symptoms you're expeiriencing indicate that the data
you are feeding Project "does not compute" in its scheduling algorith, so it
is attempting to do its job when it changes start, end and durations. If
you don't want this to happen, you need to feed it "good" and "complete"
data, or you need to adjust your expectations. Excel is not a scheduling
engine. If you want Project to behave like Excel, you should stick with
Excel.
