Questions about dependent files

1. When I save Word documents as HTML, Word creates a dependent files
folder. Is there a way to delete this dependent folder *without* XP then
automatically deleting my HTML file? In other words, I want to unlatch
the dependent folder from the HTML file.

2. The reason I want to get rid of these dependent files, btw, is that
XP does a horrendous job of compressing (zipping) them. When I compress
a folder that has files and their dependent folders in it, then later
view the compressed folder, it is empty in XP. You can try to Extract
All but that does not work either. WinZIP can see and retrieve the
files fine, but not everyone has that program. I've seen other reports
of this problem but never a solution. Has anyone else found one?

Thanks.

From a very recent post I responded to:

This is an operating system feature. In Explorer, go to Tools > Folder
Options > View [tab]. In the Advanced Settings list, you must change the
"Managing pairs of Web pages and folders" option to "Show both parts and
manage them individually"

Great, thanks, I deleted the dependent files. Is there a way to
eliminate the "Missing File/HTML Import Error" message that now appears
when the HTML file is opened? After dismissing this error message each
time, the file appears and looks fine.

On a side note, when I open the file, the error message never appears
directly. Instead the the file blinks on my taskbar and I have to click
it twice in order to see the error message. Do you know how to take
care of this problem, too?

I figured out the side note... it was related to having the Norton AV
office plugin enabled. Disabling it fixed the problem. I'd still like
an answer to the dependent files question, though. :)
