Quick and easy way to make sure you do not have a duplicate product code/ License /PID

P

Priyanka Singhal

Hello,

If you by mistake end up with a duplicate License number on your machine,
Office is designed to provide error messages to the effect "you can't use
word, <user Name> is using it right now".

If you are getting any such message, please use the following steps to
verify that you do not have Duplicate Product code/ License number/PID.

1. Bring up the about box from any of the applications on the machines
that are claiming that they are identical PIDs.

2. If the PID matches save the last 5 numbers, then both machines have
the same product key example: 75868-130-0001751-xxxxx and
75868-130-0001751-YYYYY are duplicates

If you have a duplicate PID you will have to remove this and enter a new
PID. Easy to Follow directions for the same are posted at

Please stick around!

I *think* this shorter method will also work:

To change numbers without reinstalling, launch the Remove Office
application. At the first window, hold down Option, and Continue will
change to Remove Licensing Info Only. Option-click and go on your merry way
to reenter another number.
Remove Office is in
Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Additional Tools:Remove Office:

I'm a little confused because *Priyanka* posted the long method, but I think
that's just a communications issue--the function detailed above was secret
for a long while.

Hi Kurt:

Oh, Priyanka has been in here for a couple of years :)

She's one of the Software Test Engineers in the Macintosh Business Unit Test
Lab :)

Imagine having a job that REQUIRES you to spend all day playing with about a
hundred of the latest Macs :) It's a hell of a duty, but someone has to do
it.

Priyanka normally expects *us* to do the work in here: she'll usually answer
only if you and I are too slow :)

Or, in this case, to publish a method that they previously asked us not to
make public.

Cheers

Kurt,

People from Microsoft's Mac Business Unit contribute to this newsgroup very
regularly, even though the newsgroup is run not by Microsoft itself but by
volunteers; and they observe threads more frequently than that. This
interaction leads to much more accurate information getting to Microsoft,
and in return to users.

Stick around! ;-))

Hmm, I'm having problems in Entourage, namely not seeing some recent posts
(in this case John McGhie's 23 November post in this thread) via the "Sent"
column. Excessively long-worded subjects bring it on...

Hi Clive:

If you see this, try a Command + L (Refresh List).

Cheers

Thanks for your concern, John -- but I had done that.

I've had it occur before -- Entourage gets horribly confused with some
threads when the subject is excessively long -- but not always.

It seems to occur when subjects are split over two lines in the message
source. Usually, even though the thread is not grouped properly (I group by
subject) when I download the headers, they end up getting grouped properly
once I download all of the messages in the thread, though that's not a great
solution since I need to know to look for other messages beforehand.
