Hi,
Nasty, nasty QHI!
Good news ( I think) for everybody who has had to deal with the crippled
export of Quicken Home Inventory. After many hours of Googling the WEB
without success, and frustrating attempts with print-to-file (I'm so
stubborn!), I have finally figured out a way to get all 410 pages of a
Quicken Home Inventory detail report (Q Deluxe 2000) into MS Word 2003 via
MS Office Document Imaging (MODI). Sure hope I haven't re-invented the wheel
and someone will tell me this problem has already been solved by someone
else... (*I* never saw it in my searches)
I now need to figure out the best way to modify the text for importing to an
Access 2003 Inventory Database Home Contents Application. Maybe I need to
export to Excel first, then modify the text to match the fields in the
database. Don't know. *All suggestions are welcome* as I have never imported
or exported anything from Access 2003 or Excel 2003. I am familiar with
Excel, but have no experience with databases like Access, only simple ones
like MS Works. (and I do understand the concept of a relational database and
how different it is from a spreadsheet). Actually I'm quite eager to get
into learning Access.
Can't believe I have come this far as it is. Here are the steps I took:
1. From QHI select Reports, Inventory Detail.
2. Choose Select Items, Select All, OK.
3. Print to the MS Office Image Writer (you can preview first, if you wish,
to be sure all pages are there)
4. Save As, tagged image file format (tiff), to where ever. Browse to the
file, right-click it and choose Open With, MS Office Document Imaging.
5. Choose Page, Select All Pages
6. Choose Tools, Recognize Text Using OCR...(this will take just a little
while to generate)
7. Choose Tools, Send Text To Word
8. Choose Selected pages or All pages, and choose where you want the doc
file to be, OK.
9. (I think) Word opens with your Home Inventory doc displayed (in very
large type. I temporarily reduced mine to 8pt just because).
And that's where I'm at. I'll keep experimenting. Hope you find this
information useful! And I hope you can help me get to the finish line!
