QuickInfo (popup) for endnotes doesn't work

Usually if you roll the mouse pointer over the place in a document where you
have inserted an endnote, a small popup box (QuickInfo) appears with the text
of the endnote. This is very unreliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes
nothing happens.
- What does this depend on?
- How can I force the box to appear?
Many thanks for any tips!

There was a bug in (I think) Word 2002 that caused this. The very low-tech
workaround (and the only known solution) is to display and then hide the
Document Map. It is necessary to do this once for each document every time
you open it.

Thanks for the reply, Suzanne. I don't know what a document map is or whether
the displaying and hiding can be automated. The problem exists in a lot of
documents that are being made available for download on the Internet. I can't
expect every user to know what to do. Looks like I have to live without the
popups.

There should be a button for the Document Map on your Standard toolbar. If
not, use View | Document Map. And of course, in all versions, users must
have "ScreenTips" checked on the View tab of Tools | Options in order to see
ScreenTips of any kind. While display of the DM can be automated, I don't
think you want to further confuse users by adding a macro (which at best
will trigger a warning and at worst won't work at all) to a document.
