Quicktime Movie Player in Frontpage

I have inserted some quicktime movie clips in my website, however, they come
up in their own page and if you hit the x you are taken out of the internet.
The only way to get back to the website is to use the BACK button. This
requires instructions on each link. If I simply insert a movie clip as you
would a picture or clip art - nothing comes up - just a small square without
any image. Any help out there for inserting movie clips and making them more
functional using Frontpage 2003?

where you say they click on it and get taken out of the internet:
I'm assuming that it's a hyperlink to the movie or a page with the movie
player.
Just right click the link (in FrontPage) and select hyperlink properties,
click the button for "target" on the hyperlink dialog and chose "new
window".

You may not have understood. When you click on the hyperlink, the movie does
come up in its own window, but without any controls so when you finish
watching it and hit the small x in the upper right hand corner, you exit the
internet rather than return to the previous page. I am not where I can
review my settings, but will make sure I have them set as you suggested. Do
you know why when I simply insert them onto a page they do not play. I have
to hyperlink to an image in order to even get the video to play at all. It
seemed so simple to just insert, picture, movie, but that does not work for
me.

Can you show me a link to the problem page(s)?
I've got QT Pro on this machine. (It's a heck of a deal for $29.00) I can
check the output from it to give you the appropriate code to put in your

I just tried it on another website and that appears to be working when you
select "open in new window" - thank you.

Set the link to open in a new window, currently it sound like it is replacing your current window,
since clicking the X disconnect the browser from the internet.

Chris, I've tried all of the settings available on the movie link and they
all work exactly the same way - you open them, a new window opens, and the
movie plays, but then when you hit the small x in the upper right hand corner
- you completely exit the internet - I want to return to the previous page.
Can you help? The website is www.amangoproduction.com. Let me know how it
works for you.

it's not a problem!
first, although it's not an issue in this context, you've got spaces in the
file names, I would correct this at your earliest convenience.
there's a tool at www.jimcosoftware.com that will help. it's called space
replacer.

secondly;
regarding the videos. they're not opening in a new window! they're just
hyperlinks to video files, which begins a download, and then throws the
player. then when someone clicks the [x] close window button they've closed
the page, and your site.
if you'll simply make them open in a new window you'll have that problem
covered.

If it were me, and I was trying to sell people a video service like you are,
I would come up with a better strategy than simply opening the raw movie
file (especially a .mov) in a new window.
why not make a nice pop-up window, and play the movie in an embedded player.
it'll give you a much more professional "look".

there are a number of ways to pull this off, from ways that require tons of
expensive software and lots of skills to something that would be fairly
workable for cheap, like this: http://www.coffeecup.com/video-player/
That's a video player tool that will convert your videos to a good file
format appropriate for the web and even attach them to a nice player (with
play list) if you like.

If you need more help, post back. I've been getting pretty deep into video
for the web lately so I don't mind sharing. ;-)

2. You may also want to consider shorten the file names.

Another note to my last post - you can only return to the previous page by
using the "back" button. You cannot simply close the player.

Thanks so much. I'm going to look at the video-player website and see if
that will help. I certainly agree that the current showing is not
acceptable. I'm trying to help out a friend by doing this for him - as you
might imagine, he's a "starving" artist. Since I'm not a professional
webmaster and Frontpage is the only software I have available, this is they
way it is going for now. I'll see what I can do with the video-player.
