quirks with PPT 2008 and Vista

Here is a major issue I've encountered with Office 2008 (Mac) and PPT Vista (PC.)

if your document has any art boxes, arrows, etc. PPT automatically sets them to resize to text, as if everything was a text box. Although they retain their shape in 2008 and Vista, if you save them down to an earlier version, the boxes collapse their shape. We have tried to reset each art shape manually to not "resize shape to fit text" with limited success.

The problem is that all of our clients don't work with PPTX files yet, and so we can't use it until we know that the art we create within PPT won't be compromised.

The only solution we have found is to create the art externally (illustrator) and import it as JPEGs or PNGs through "Import picture from file," although it's a pain in the ass if you want to edit your graphics, because you have to go back to your source files. We are used to filling shapes with photos, and this glitch has seriously compromised the usibility of 2008. Until it's fixed, or everyone can open PPTX files, we're sticking with 2004.

Any fixes that you know of?

We otherwise use PPT 2004

Although your observation is valid your conclusion isn't:)

There is no glitch or anything which needs to be (or will be) "fixed".
Office 2008 & Office 2007 both use the same new graphics generator which
provides artwork that prior versions can neither create nor display. Many of
the later versions' features employ those tools & opening files containing
those effects in older version software requires they be converted to
something the earlier versions can display.

If graphics compatibility is paramount you'll have to be satisfied going
with the "lowest common denominator" until everyone involved upgrades to
OOXML native versions of the software.

BTW: *Vista* is the latest version of the Windows Operating System & has
nothing to do with Office itself - Office 2000, 2002, 2003 & 2007 will all
run on Windows Vista.
