Quotation dash question

The horizontal bar, also known as a "quotation dash", is
commonly used to introduce quoted text in some non-English languages
and by James Joyce. In Unicode, the horizontal bar / quotation dash is
U+2015 (decimal
8213). In HTML, it can be input only with the numeric form, ―
or &#8213. How do I enter this MSWord on a Mac? What fonts and what do
I type? The four decimal digits followed immediately by an 'X' or
something weird like that?

Apologies for being so arcane here.

Hi Nick -

If you're a stickler for precision you're best bet is to use the OS X
Character Palette. By entering 2015 in the search box at the bottom of the
palette you can get that character. There is no routine keystroke although
it can be constructed as an AutoText or AutoCorrect item.

However, the em dash (U+2014) is virtually identical & easily can be used
instead. In fact, it would probably move better with the doc if it goes to a
system which doesn't have a font that includes the 2015 character. For the
em dash you can use either:

Shift+Option+Hyphen

or

Option+Command+[numpad] Minus

I use em dashes frequently, so I have set up AutoCorrect to substitute an em
dash when I type a hyphen followed by an equal sign. It's much quicker than
the standard Mac keystroke combination.

Hi Nick -

Apple Menu to System Preferences - International, Input Menu page. Check
the box for Character Palette. See Mac Help on "typing special characters".
