quotation marks and apostrophes

Whenever I type an apostrophe or quotation mark I have to
press the spacebar before it will type the mark. I find
this very annoying - any way to turn this off? I am using
Office 2000.

It sounds as if you have your keyboard set up for an international layout in
which these are "dead keys." Try checking the settings under Control Panel |
Regional Options.
