quotation marks & hyphenation

I'm using an OEM version of Word 2000 for its Reviewing feature. If I
could afford to buy a newer version, I would -- MS won't allow me to
upgrade from a non-purchased version.

I've only noticed this problem when I'm using the Reviewing feature.
The quotation marks are Spanish and/or French -- never English. The
documents I work on are *filled* with quotations. I can manually
change each individual mark, but it's laborious and time-consuming.

Less important is the continual automatic hyphenation queries.

The English default and the hyphenation-OFF default simply don't work.

I know from Google searches that others have had these problems, but
I've followed various suggestions that have been made, and nothing has
worked.

WordPerfect is my primary word processor. I ONLY need Word for the
reviewing feature. Finally, desperate to be rid of the quotation
mark problem, I purchased Word 2003 for $229, an amount that I can
scarcely afford.

Imagine my surprise to find that for that amount of money, there isn't
even a manual of ANY size. During the past couple of months, I've
purchased several excellent programs, replacing older versions. Every
one of them had a manual. I thought maybe it was a mistake, so I
phoned Microsoft. No, they don't include manuals with any of their
products.

Pathetic.
