Rack Equipment Diagrams

I've created several rack equipment illustrations in Adobe Illustrator that I
would like to inport into Visio and add to a stencil so that they "glue" to
the proper place in the rack. I need to add our companys equipment to the
standard rack equipment stuff on Netzoom etc.

Can any one give me a step by step on how to create the masterso that when
it is dragged from the stencil you see only the "connector" highlighted and
not the bounding box of the shape. This seems to be the industry standard for
rack equipment from HP, IBM, etc. When I group the connector with my shape,
the connector no longer "works." What's up with that? There must be an easy
way
to group a connector with an imported shape and have the connector actually
work?

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but this is what I do. It
starts with the fact that to attach to most rack shapes you have to use a 1d
shape (which is what netzoom usually delivers). For most projects (currently
working on one with about 200 frames and 500 servers) I start by ensuring
that the shapes (servers) are configured as 1d. You can compare your shapes
with the ones by Altima by looking for the 1-D endpoints in the shapesheet.

Thanks Al, that's the key I was looking for. I saw 1D endpoints in the
shapesheet while looking at IBMs.
