You used ActiveX controls from the Control Toolbox. ActiveX is a
Windows-only technology.

To work cross-platform, use the radio buttons and checkboxes from the
Forms toolbar.

A foonote here.

Before Microsoft gets yet another black eye for bad technology, it's
worth pointing out that although Microsoft Windows programs support
Active-X, the technology itself is an open source.

I suppose anyone who has the resources could port Active-X to Macintosh.
Here's the specification for any eager beavers out there:

Actually its Microsoft's implementation of it.
AS it is now. ActiveX controls (the way MS implements them) is
responsible for the majority of the 50 gazillion a month Virus, worm,
and Trogan horse attack out in internet land.

IF they were to deep six Active-X there internet attacks would probably
drop about 75-80%.

Allowing software to when downloaded to simply start installing itself
with out your knowledge.

Here is an exmaple although what was installed had nothing to do with MS
was implemented by active-X controls.

a few years ago, a friend of mine, ran a consumer Electronics Service
Center. (TV Shop).

I was visiting, he turn on one of his computers. (Lucky it wasn't tied
to the other in the shop).

As soon as the power was on and he signed into AOL a scrren came up and
said We've detected that the version of AOL that you are using is out of
date. PLease stand by while AOL reads your computers hard drive and
detects required components to remove and replace. When finished reboot
you computer. We it dleteled file after file, Then it uploaded zip file
after zip file then unpacked them (all the while maintaining a phone
connection. It went on this was for about 20 minutes or so. Finally it
said reboot.

At no point during this was there any out to get out of this. unless you
just shut the computer down.

If this had happened on my Mac I would have had a Heart Attack. Because
even on OS 9 would any software ever took it upon itself to download,
delete, and install anything without your prior knowledge. And OSX is
eve stricter. If you install anything in OSX you must at least give your
password.

So for Apple to get on the Active-X bandwagon. As they say in Southern
Virginia.

Uhh Uhh! That dowg ain't going to hunt!

Unfortunately, in order to get some of the additional functionality the
risk of bad things happening to your computer also goes up. But that
will happen with any programming environment, not just active-X.

I've read some very negative things about active-X. As far as I know
Microsoft is the only company that widely uses this open source
technology.

Many think it's a good thing that no one has ever ported Active-X to the
Mac. The reasons you cited are among the reasons I read.

I could be mistaken, but Active-X may have started out as a Microsoft
technology that was turned over to open source, much the same way that
Sun has turned OpenOffice over to open source.

Actually like most things that happen a MS.

In reasearch I have found that, Active-X is "very looosly based" on
something called "OpenScript". If MS used the security constraints in
"OpenScript" there would be no vile hatred of ActiveX but changes that
MS programs created, created the Security Headaches PC peole have to
worry about.
