Ramification of having non SP3 client on a Proj Server 2003 with SP3

Ravi

Hello All,

Would like to know the ramification or the impact of using a Project
Professional 2003 with SP1 or SP2 or none of them to connect to a
server having SP3 installed. Please give your thoughts on this. Also,
if I have any issues/problems on a early SP installation, will that be
resolved when I install the latest (here SP3)?

Thank you in advance for your help!

- Ravi.

Hi Ravi,

the generall recomendation is to keep Project Pro in sync with Project
Server in regards to Service Packs. I believe in 2003 it is actaully
required.
Hope this helps

Thanks Marc,

I too believed on the same theory. But I tested non SP3 Project Pro
with SP3 client. Wonder that most of my usual functionalities works
with NO DIFFERENCE.
And now, I would like to change the question as "if I don't have a non
SP3 client for a server having SP3 what problems it would give?".

Thanks,
Ravi.

hehehehe, well, I guess I cant really answer that in detail, what I do know
is that if you dont have the same SP you are "playing with fire" so to speak
and eventually I would think that you will run into issue. I can image that
projects may get spoller errors, not all information is publisehd and I can
imagine that it can lead to project schedule corruption. ( all my assumptions
). I would make sure that all clients have the same SP mate :)
Hope this helps

Yes Marc, I too had the same assumption along with the database schema
modifications related. So when you publish with non SP3, you are
sending partial or non acceptable format (may be) of input to server.
Because we are making schema changes when we apply SQL part of patch.
This is my strong doubt which I wanted to make sure with you all. Let
me enforce the client upgrade. Thanks for your inputs!

Thanks,
Ravi.
