Random acts of mail deletion

Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Office 2008 w/Entourage. Exchange mail hosted via Intermedia.net. IMAP setup at Intermedia to allow mail to be pulled on an iPhone.

iPhone email account Delete Messages setting set to NEVER.

On occassion days worth of email moves from the inbox to the deleted folder.

We checked for an Entourage rule of some type. Nothing. Or certainly nothing apparent.

If it was the iPhone via IMAP then the messages would be really, really deleted not moved to the Deleted folder. Rules out the iPhone.

The random nature also rules out any type of Rule or Schedule - or so it seems to me.

Also please note...two other users with similar setups - Intel based Mac, iPhone, Intermedia hosted Exchange account, Office 2008 with Entourage - no issues with these other two users.

Go figure.

I certainly appreciate any hints and even any wild arsed guesses.

Have you checked with Intermedia to see whether or not they have a
process running that automatically deletes messages that are X number of
days old? Our company's Exchange Server is set to do this. Messages over
90 days old are moved to the Deleted Items folder. They remain there for
a little while and then are deleted automatically if I don't do anything.

Log in to your Exchange account using Outlook Web Access (OWA) and look
for the option to Recover Deleted Items. Do you see your messages there?
This is another location typically hidden from the end-user where mail
is stored for a while longer before complete deletion.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the ideas Bill.

I checked in w/Intermedia. No auto-delete.

When next this situation strikes we will log into OWA per your thoughts. I did check via OWA and my Mac user credentials, but no MIA messages.

This is most frustrating because it is intermittent and because the other two very similar Mac users I support see no such issues.

I asked my "problem" user if he was a sonambulist or if he had restless finger syndrome...alas neither!

Thanks again.
