random crashes with Word 2002

The past few times that I've been trying to use Word,
it's decided to freeze/crash on me. It's happened in the
following instances:

- trying to select a different font from the toolbar. The
list doesn't pull down, the whole thing just freezes, and
I have to shut it down.

- attempting to change the page setup using the file
menu. I click page setup, and the same thing happens as
above.

- trying to print; same thing as the other two instances.
It doesn't even bring up the printing window.

I've tried reinstalling Office and getting all of the
available Office updates; that did absolutely nothing.
Any ideas as to what the heck the problem is and/or how
to fix it would be greatly appreciated. It's a very
annoying situation.

Other pertinent info:
-Dell Computer, 1.7 GHz
-Windows XP

Thanks for the help. I think the problem was that the
network printer I have set as the default printer was
down or something; I switched the default back to the one
in my room and it works.

I appreciate the advice!
