Random paste and menu activation

When editing in Word (Office XP Small Business Ed) tab
characters and other text (usually from the clip board) is
automaticaly pasted at the current cursor location. I
started Word directly from a cold boot and it still
managed to paste some text, though there was nothing in
the clip board. Also the cursor will jump to the
beginning/end of the line and sometimes menus are
activated and random selections made. This problem only
occurs in Word, not WordPad or ASCII text editors.

I have the latest Norton Antivirus (Internet Security 2003
with latest downloads) which has detected nothing. I have
also checked for macros and found none.

I have replaced the mouse and keyboard with no effect.
