Random toolbar behavior

I use Word 2003 on Vista. Why do my toolbars move around between
sessions and why does the "control" toolbar insist on reappearing?

Thanks for this!

I guess I should have mentioned that the control bar keeps reappearing
no matter how many times I uncheck it in Views/Toolbars!

Alright--the "random placement" of the toolbars has stopped but the
control toolbar keeps reappearing.

Alright--the "random placement" of the toolbars has stopped but the

Now another problem has emerged which I suspect is directly related to
the reappearing control toolbar! Word no longer opens with the same
size and placement it had when it was close. Instead, it always opens
in exactly the same place with exactly the same size and shape! I
know template information is saved in normal.dot but I didn't think
screen coordinates were.

Any help would be appreciated--I just want things to go back to normal
with Word.

The Control Toolbox will open if the document contains ActiveX controls.

Okay--so I'm dead in the water on that one.

Any idea on why suddenly Word is stuck on one size and placement at
startup????

The Control toolbar can be an indication that macro security is set to High
and an Auto macro is attempting to run, usually due to an add-in. See the
section titled "If you get an error message as soon as Word opens, but it
doesn't crash (e.g. "Compile Error in Hidden Module") ..." for
troubleshooting steps in this article:

The location of the Word window is stored in the Registry in the Data key.
Here's an article that contains steps for rebuilding the key at the bottom:

Thanks to you both for your help--I've got things working the way they
were before this strange sequence of events!
