range interception as lookup

Hi,

I have a book on Excel that explains that you can use a "range
interception" operator (the space) as a way of doing lookup function.
A B
1 20 30
2 40 50

So =a1:b1 b1:b2 would resolve to 30, the interception of the 2 ranges.
Using this new information is working fine for me but I need
documentation of this method for my boss. I didn't find anything on
in the excel help document. I found only one thing on the microsoft
help website an article: HOW TO Perform a Two-Dimensional Lookup in
Excel 2000_files. this article only use this method with Natural
Language Formulas and warned of bugs. Does anyone know where I can
find documentation for the range intercetion method of lookup?

I believe that you mean intersection. Interception is what happens when
the opposing team catches your quarterback's pass. In Excel XP space as
an intersection operator is documented in a Help topic titled "About
Calculation Operators".
