Rapid blinking & flashing when working on document

In the past few days, I have noticed almost every project I do in Publisher
(usually involving Word Art) when I make any mouse move or change, my project
blinks and flashes rapidly and often continues for a minute. I operate XP
professional and have 1GB of Ram. This has happened before, rarely, and
usually when I ungroup and change clip art and then regroup. Now it is
happening with simple jobs. I have rebooted and run Ad-aware. Anybody else
have this problem?
