Rapid Scrolling Can it be fixed?

This is an annoyance that I have lived with for a couple of years, but I
feel confident the expertise and experience of the users on this board will
provide an answer.

In Word 2000 on one machine and 97? on another, when ever I need to block
more text than shows on the screen the blocked text jumps very rapidly to
the top or the bottom of the document. No amount of slow edging toward the
top or bottom frame can make it block slower.

Is there a way to make text blocking block line by line instead of full
pages or documents?

If this fix works I'd like to hear about it. In all my attempts to use
the Reg hack, which is for Live Scrolling in Word 97, never once did
it make a difference in the scroll speed.

The only way to gain control over the scroll speed when using the
mouse is to either downgrade your processor (yeah - right!) or upgrade
to at least Word 2002.

Otherwise there are several keyboard/mouse combinations you can use.
My favorite is to click and hold the mouse button but roll the wheel
to select text. Of course that's provided you have a wheel mouse.

Otherwise use Shift with your arrow keys are other keyboard navigation
to select text. For example if you press Shift + Ctrl + Down it will
select from your insertion point to the end of the document. Shift +
Ctrl + Pg Up/Dn will select by page, etc.

That's an easy one to fix!! Put theI-beam at the
beginning of the section of text you wish to select
(block, and left click to leave the blinking cursor there.

Then go to end of selection, put the I beam there, and
press and hold shift button. Then left-click again.

Just that text between the points clicked will be selected
even if the text selected is several pages long. Also,
this works in both the forward and backward direction
