Rapidly flashing cursor when hide white space is turned on

This is a small, silly thing really, but it's driving me nuts. When I turn
on hide white spaces the cursor starts flashing very rapidly. It's very
distracting. When I show the white space it goes away. I use hide white
space a lot for document reviews. Any way to stop this?
