Rasputin EULA

Hal

Just purchased a Dell with a VISTA operating system. Unloaded 2003 Office
basic from my old computer (which I gave to friends) and loaded it on to the
new system.
Primarily because Office Outlook is far and away my favorite email
program....I think it is excellent.

I am the sole user of my new system (and setup a password). Thus I am the
administrator by default.

Whenever I initially open Office or take any action like opening a new email
window, the EULA pops up. I can agree until the cows come home, but it keeps
on asking.

The program is activated.

Did an uninstall and reinstall. No help. Might try that one more time.

I searched for the problem in the office knowledge base and the diagnosis
was that Office 2003 wasn't recognizing me as administrator. The solution for
XP involved a regedit. But this is Vista, and I have only had it up for about
24 hours. Have no idea how to do a regedit on a Vista system. Nor do I know
if that would work on a Vista system.

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated. Really want to hang
on to a functional Office Outlook.

Thanks in advance.

Same as before, Start, Run, type REGEDIT and it's running. Begin by
doing a backup (File, Export), then see if the key you need is there
(the Vista registry has some changes) and modify it accordingly.

David, thanks for your reply. ( Run isn't
on my start commands but I typed in the search engine and it came
up......so I did get to regedit. Sorry I am lost on Vista thus far.

Anyway I fillowed these commands

<<• For Microsoft Office 2003:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 >>

Got that far in fine shape but then it told me to click on "Permissions". I
am afraid there was no such option. Looked all around for it. Not there. I
may just have a fouled up installation. I will try a reinstall of Office once
more. ( my only reluctance are the bodacious security dwnloads afterwards).

As an aside I set up Vista Mail and tried to spell check a letter ( in
English) and it said it was no longer set up to spellcheck that
language.....lol. I have a hunch I will have a long learning curve with
Vista. ( though I kind of like it. It even recognized my ancient Epson Stylus
Photo 1270 printer and quicklyloaded very usable drivers).

Thanks again for your reply....at least now I know how to get to the run
command.

I did another uninstall, and this time a full rather than typical reinstall.
The problem continues. Went to regedit again and "Permissions" is still not
there. Outta luck probably. May just live with it...for awhile anyway.

BINGO! I figured Office might have some sort of buggy relationship with the
Vista User Access Control. Thought I would try turning it off ...didn't have
an easy time finding the spot to do so, but finally tracked it down. Then
restarted. THEN opened Office. Agreed to the Eula. Now no more EULAs. WHEW!

Haven't tried it yet, but I suspect this agreement will stick now whether I
turn User Access Control back on or not.

So if anyone has a similar experience, I believe turning off user access
control temporarily will do the trick for you too.

Double checked after turning Vista User Access conrol back on. The EULA is no
longer popping up.

So if any novice Vista administrator has the same Vista problem with a EULA
that just won't die....
A) turn off Vista User Access Control ( it is possible to find the
spot...keep looking)
B) Restart, open the problem program and agree to the EULA
C) If you want to then reactivate User Access Conrol you can. The EULA
should still be gone for good.

When you're in regedit the "permissions" should be in the edit menu,
check there.
