RBS advice

We have recently had some major org changes take place and I need to update
the RBS to reflect this. Is there a " best practice " when doing this?
We have a consultant that has worked with our PM's and me in the past and he
has made me kind of nervous when it comes to modifying the RBS. Basically he
has told me it would be easier to rebuild the server. I don't want to do
that. Any advice would be great.

I seriously question your consultant's advice. Rebuilding the server would
be easier than changing the RBS? That's silly!

If you wish to change the RBS outline code structure, know in advance that
this will change the reporting of data in Portfolio Analyzer views,
including the data for any completed projects in your database. If this is
acceptable, then do the following:

1. Open the Enterprise Global and recreate the RBS according to your new
specifications
2. Save and close the Enterprise Global file, then exit and relaunch
Microsoft Project
3. Open the Enterprise Resource Pool and check out all the resources
4. Insert the RBS field in the Resource Sheet view
5. Set the new RBS value for every resource
6. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool

From this point, you will need to ask ALL of your project managers to open
EVERY one of their projects, press the F9 function key to recalculate the
project values, and then republish the project by clicking Collaborate -
Publish - All Information. This will "push" the new resource and assignment
information to PWA. The next time the OLAP cube rebuilds, you will see the
new project data based on the new RBS outline code information. Hope this
helps.
