RBS Nomenclature

Darrell

Can anyone provide input on the type of nomenclature they have used in the
RBS lookup table and how well it worked out? Is it better to use specific
names making the RBS field really long, yet making filtering easier, or to
use short abbreviations to keep the RBS field shorter, and having to refer to
a chart to remember what the abbreviations stand for? Does the nomenclature
in the RBS have an impact on how Active Directory sycns with the resource
pool?

All advice or help greatly appreciated.

Firstly, try not to place too many levels in the RBS as this can impact on
performance in PWA if you're using dynamic category permissions. Keeping the
RBS at a high level so as to meet your organisations needs will help keep the
length to a minimum.

I typically use meaningful values in the RBS rather that abbreviations.
Having said that, as this field is generally not used by end users I can't
see any reason why abbrevations/acronymns shouldn't be used (as long as they
are documented).

The RBS does not impact on AD sync.

Paul,

Thanks for the information. I like using a more descriptive name as well
versus abbreviations but though I would be thorough and ask for input.
