Re-Activating

S

Sander

As the network guy of a small/medium size company I refuse to pay the
outrageous cost difference between the full Open Volume licensing and the
retail upgrade version of Office XP. In the past we have always purchased
upgrade copies to keep our users up to date. Since the Open volume/value
licensing does not have upgrades anymore, we have decided the save a lot of
money and go the retail route. The amount of work to set up a machine is
considerably longer, but we are saving quite a bit of money. My question
is, can anyone give me some tips on how to re-activate Office after a user
gets a new machine or has a drive failure. Thanks in advance.

You need to call Microsoft to re-activate your office
product. It will take a few minutes (if you actually
bought the product).

Thanks for the response. I know that I will need to call them, I was just
wondering if there is a faster way to do it. Thanks anyway.

find and save the data.dat file - since you have multiple machines and
multiple cd keys, save the product registration registry key too. when you
need to reinstall, you can use one cd image but use the reg file and
data.dat to restore activation to each computer using the correct key.

the reg to save is under these:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration
