Re-applying an update after a re-install of OL2007.

Right from the start, I'll admit that I might have fouled something up while
I was experimenting, so feel free to give me that answer if it's
appropriate.

I installed OL2007. I applied the SP1 update. I ran into an indication
that there may be a problem with the Registry. I ran Reg-Cure, for whatever
that was worth. I un-installed OL2007. Then, just for the helluvit (it's
the programmer in me) I tried to apply the SP1 update, and it spit up,
saying that it had already been applied. I re-installed OL2007. When I
tried to apply the SP1 update (legitimately this time) it spit up the same
way.

Shouldn't the re-install of OL2007 have erased any record of updates having
been applied?

It's appropriate here indeed.

Can you remember the error?

Yes, but you ran a regcleaner which are known to do more harm than good.
Stay away from those.

To recover you could try;

In particular take a look at step 5.
