re-creating charts in new datasheet

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel In the previous Excel, I was able to create a "template" that contains fixed position data and charts linking to these data on the same sheet. By pasting in data in the exact same location, I could recreate charts very quickly. I need to do this for hundred of datasets. However, the 2008 Excel insists on referring to the original data sheet and it is tedious to edit the link one by one (each chart contains 8-10 series, multiplied by 8 charts). Is there a way to remove the external sheet reference in the 2008 Excel. Do I need to reinstall the older version of Excel to avoid this task?

By "template" do you really mean you had one file that had the data and
that other workbooks linked to the data?

No, it means that data are organized in fixed locations. The important point is that, on the same worksheet, charts are made that point to these data. I have discovered a workaround lately. It involves one more step than in the previous Excel. Instead of duplicating the "template" worksheet in the same workbook and pasting the new data in, I would need to copy/move the template worksheet to another file/workbook and paste the new data in. The difference is, in the old-first method, the charts in the duplicated worksheet still point to the original sheet while the new-2nd method, the duplicated worksheet in the new file only points to itself.

If each new sheet is to be set up the same way & each respective data range
is the same size why not create a custom sheet? Follow the directions in
Excel Help for doing so & you can use one of your existing sheets as a model
for creating the actual template. You can then just select it form the
Sheets tab in the Elements Gallery whenever you need a new one then paste
the new data into the corresponding ranges.
