re Excel97

Well I'm back. And, I have fixed the problem.

Here is how . I take little credit for this as the only way the
problem was resoved was by accident.

Firstly I Installed the following programs in an attempt to view or
read the corrupted file.

Office 97 sp1
Office 97 sp2
Open office (would only display the active sheet intially)
pcs4.exe
gscalc60.zip
spro.zip
xlviewer.exe
xrdemo.exe
fileview.exe
easyoffice.exe.

Easyoffice opened the spreadsheet excluding the vb and cell notes. But
it was a start because the cell notes were visible in the open office
offering.

Then I reinstalled open office as it somehow got corrupted, and opened
my corrupt spreadsheet. Somehow I trigered a save process. As the save
was overwritning my original file, before open office finished its
housekeeping, I got an error message saying that there was a problem
and that the original corrupt file MAY be recoverable (in its corrupt
state) after a reboot.

I rebooted, open office file recovery loaded by default, and the
original corrupt file loaded. I waited for the hour glass to
disapear(1/2 hour or so) then saved the file as a type .xls with a new
name.

I then opened excel, and opened the file, and guess what, Even the
auto run macro worked, and and the spreadsheet was as good as new.

What an exercise.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone else in the future.

Regards,
ND.
ps Thanks for the suggestions too.
