Re-Installation Problem- OMI9.DLL Missing

David

I have a Windows 98 PC, and I was running Outlook 2000 in
Corporate or Workgroup mode, and wanted to switch to
Internet Only mode... I changed this option within
Outlook, but when the program closed, I now find that I
cannot start Outlook up again.

Everytime I try, even with the Office 2000 disc in my
drive, I receive the same message: "Cannot start
Microsoft Outlook. A required component is missing:
OMI9.DLL. Please install Microsoft Outlook again."

I tried finding a solutoin to this problem on the net, but
none of the advice I found (i.e. change the registry, or
create a new user profile) has solved this problem, as I
cannot start Outlook, or even reinstall it.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

If you are running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you may
receive the following error message when you start Microsoft Outlook 2000:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A required component is missing: OMI9.DLL.
Please install Microsoft Outlook again."

I know of a knowledge base article which address this issue. I would
recommend checking on the link given below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q197034
OL2000: Error Message: Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook

I have one more article which address the same issue, if you are using
windows XP (I know you are using windows 98) check the link given below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q318662
OL2000: "Omi9.dll" Error Message or "Mapi32.dll" Error Message After You
Upgrade to Windows XP

Note: - The above mentioned article contains information about modifying
the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and
make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem
occurs. For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the
registry, click the following article number to view the article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

let me know if this helps. if you have any questions reply back.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I tried fixing the registry as recommended
in that article, and it didn't seem to help. I changed
the value to '0' from '1' in the relevant registry key,
but the problem I referred to earlier hasn't changed.

When I change the registry key value back to '1', then
Outlook loads fine in Corporate/Workgroup mode....
however, when I change the value to '0', Outlook still
will not load, stating the same message: "Cannot start
Microsoft Outlook. A required component is missing:
OMINT.DLL. Please install Microsoft Outlook again."

Given that the prescribed solution is not working, I am
not sure what the best course of action would be.
