Office Update is unable to check on MS Office Update Site for updates after I
followed instructions:
1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility on your desktop.
For NT/2000/XP
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/util20/1/NT4/EN-US/msicuu.exe
2. Tried to do the followiing, but could not find the folder '10'.
Locate the following two registry keys and click Delete from the Edit menu.
Click OK on the pop-up warning dialog box.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0
So I deleted the individual keys for each of the MS Office programs. Forgot
to delete keys for the LOCAL_MACHINE.
3. Tried to delete Delete the "Microsoft Office" folder located in the
C:\Program Files. But this folder would not delete. Error Message: 'in use'.
4. Deleted the Temp & recycle Folders contents
5. Re-installed Office XP - entered the 'Product Kex' etc. The installation
went extraordinarily quickly, but all Office programs are now present.
6. The instructions from Microsoft are to now update with Office XP-SP1 and
then Office XP-SP2. I have downloaded fresh copies.
*But* when I try to run these, I get the Error message: "Office Hotfix
Installer encountered a problem".
The same occurs when I try SP2.
7. *Also* when I go to Microsoft Office Update and "Check for updates" I am
told:
"Office Update is unable to check for updates" and told to "Search for
Office updates in the Download Catalog".
But I already have the updates I need SP1 & SP2. I just need to run them.
Please tell me what I can do:
a. to update with SP1 & SP2
b. to have access to Office UPdates
Strangely, I noticed that MS Automatic Updates just downloaded MS Office
SP-3 update without choaking. Does that mean Windows Installer Cleanup
Utility did not do a complete job of uninstalling MS Office?
