re-installing Office 97 on Windows xp

E

E.Nelson

I am trying to install Office 97 on my new computer - only
for the fact that I prefer to buy an upgrade version of
Office 2004 instead of full price. I have the product key
and all other information for the Office 97 setup. But,
when installed on new computer, I get "installation
incomplete, unable to initialize "Bdrintl.dll" try setup
again. I have tried 4 times, no luck.
Question: Though total installation wasn't successful,
can I still install the update version of Office 2004 Prof?

Office 2004 is for Macintosh. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to install it under Windows XP.

Hi E.,

If you're planning on installing an upgrade edition of
MS Office for Windows (Office System 2003 being the most
current), you don't need to install Office 97 first, you'll
need to have the Office 97 available when installing the
Office upgrade edition.

For the error you're getting installing Office 97 see if
the information in this article helps:

There is a link to a utility to fix the issue as well.

A.T.

You don't need to install Office 97 to install your upgrade version of
Office 2003. All you need is the Office 97 CD.

1. Run the Setup program for Office 2003.

2. Type the product key in the User Information dialog box, and then
click OK.

3. In the Product Compliance Check dialog box (qualifying product error),
click your CD-ROM drive
in the Drive list.

4. Eject the Office 2003 CD, and then insert CD1 from Office 2000 or
Office 97. If you are using Office 2000 Small Business Edition, insert
CD2.

5. Wait 30 seconds to allow the CD-ROM drive to spin up and recognize
the new CD that you inserted.

6. Click OK in the Product Compliance Check dialog box.

7. When the Office 2003 End-User License Agreement appears, eject the
previous version CD, and then insert your Office 2003 CD.

Note If you do not eject your Office XP, Office 2000 or Office 97 CD at
this point, you receive an error message after the Office 2003 installation
continues.

Error 25003
