Re-installing Office 97

I've recently bought a new computer and will shortly install Vista and the
latest Microsoft Office product. I do however wish to install Office 97
professional edition which was running on my old computer for 10 years.
Desite having bought the product at an official Microsoft launch, and
entering the genuine CD Key, I receive the message that this is an upgrade
and cannot load unless I have another qualifying Microsoft product on my hard
disc, which unfortunately, I do not.
Can anyone please help?

If you don't have a qualifying product then you cannot load that software.
Now just in case you are curious what qualifying software you would need,
try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158069/EN-US/.

Please note, where it says "all versions" of Word or Excel, that means, all
versions released prior to Office 97.

Also, you will need to install Office 97 before Office 2007 if you want to
run both versions. This is assuming Office 97 will run on Vista. No
guarantees there.

Many thanks for that info. Unfortunately on a new computer I have none of the
qualifying programmes installed, or for that matter on CD or floppy. I
thought there might have been a means of by-passing the requirement.

You could always try EBay for a copy of Office 95 - I'll bet it would be
dead cheap!
