Re-name Projects in 2003

Using MSP2003 ENT,

I need to change the name of a project located on the server. What is the
best method for renaming projects? I have seen the project rename tool from
Microsoft and couldn't get it working, maybe there is another way???

Hi, the project renamer tool is the best way unless you have no work on the
project, in which case you could easily import it and name it what you
wanted.

What I have done in the past is simpily perform a "save as" on the project
with a different name and then delete the old project. This kept the actuals
on the project if you had time associated.

Thanks all for your help, I'm going to try both mentioned solutions to see
which works best.

I believe using the "Save as" process may compromise the baselines that you
have applied to the project. Using "Save as" will also create a new
sharepoint site. So any risks, issues and documents would no longer be
associated with the project and you would need to go through a process to
reattach the old sharepoint site with the new (renamed) project. It is best
(cleaner) to go with the renaming utility!

Why cant you do...File Open, and right click on the file name in the file
open dialog box...and choose rename. I know that works in 2007. Are there
limitations in 2007 on this rename method? I have noticed it changes in most
places in PWA, but I have noticed in View Availibilty, the list of projects
does NOT appear to be changed when using this method in 2007.

Tom, did you try publishing after you rename in 2007? I hope this
should make the change. Also does this applies the change on
sharepoint workspace?

yes, we did publish. The name of the link for the project SharePoint
workspace did change, but when you open the workspace, the title of the WSS
site did not change.

I downloaded the Project Renaming Utility, unzipped and installed on my
server. Also updated the registry (hopfully correctly), and run the program
(projrenamer.exe) from the server. My issue is I keep getting login failed,
I'm sure the correct Server URL is entered and login as the Project Admin for
windows. Does anyone have suggestions on what I may be missing??
